25-year figures assume 3% annual energy price rises — below the UK's long-run average. If prices rise faster than that, the difference is yours. Figures are typical for the households each package suits. Run the calculator for the figure for your own roof and bill.

💷 Straight talk about finance

Plenty of installers tell you the monthly repayment is covered by your bill saving. On most Scottish homes that isn't true, and we'd rather you heard it from us than found out in month two.

Paying cash

  • Typical payback is 8–12 years in Scotland
  • After that, 15+ years of saving is yours outright
  • Best total return — no interest paid
  • Adds value at sale on a better EPC rating

Using finance

  • £0 deposit, so you start saving immediately
  • Your bill saving offsets most but usually not all of the repayment
  • Expect a real net cost while the term runs
  • Once it's paid off, the full saving is yours

Finance is provided by a third-party lender, subject to status and affordability checks. Figures shown are illustrative — your survey gives you the exact terms.

After Installation

Your System, Always Looked After

Every package includes 12 months of Care. After that you choose your level — or cancel. Each tier adds to the one below it. If you run solar, a battery and a heat pump together, Whole Home keeps all three working as one system rather than three.

Every tier includes everything in the one before it. Repairs — parts and labour — are quoted separately on all plans; see what your plan covers. Cancel or switch any time with 30 days’ notice.

Common Questions

Solar FAQs

Is solar actually worth it in Scotland?
Yes, but with realistic expectations. Scotland gets roughly 800 kWh per kWp per year against about 950 in the south of England — around 15% less. The bigger factor is how much of your own generation you use directly, which is why we push modular batteries. A typical Scottish household on our Shield package sees an 8–11 year payback. Anyone quoting you 5 years is using optimistic assumptions.
Will my installation be MCS certified?
Yes. Every installer we work with is MCS registered and holds current certification, and your system is certified on completion. We design the system, manage the project and handle the documentation and the DNO notification; you receive your MCS certificate at handover. Keep it safe — it is what you need to register for Smart Export Guarantee payments, and it underpins your warranty and any grant or scheme application.
How can I pay for it?
Two ways: outright, or on finance. Paying cash gives you the best total return because you pay no interest, and typical payback in Scotland is 8–12 years. Finance means £0 deposit and you start saving from day one, though your bill saving usually offsets most rather than all of the monthly repayment — we show you both side by side at quote stage so you can decide with the real numbers in front of you.
What does "modular battery" actually mean?
The battery is built from stackable modules rather than being one sealed unit. You can start with 7.68 kWh and add another module in two years without replacing the inverter or redesigning the system. It means you don't have to guess your future usage today — and if you later add an EV or a heat pump, the system grows with you.
Do I have to take a Care plan?
No. Twelve months of Care is included with every package, and after that you can continue on Care, drop to Monitor at £15/month, or cancel entirely. Your system keeps working either way — you'd just lose the fault alerts and the engineer dispatch. In practice a fault that goes unnoticed for six months costs more than several years of the plan.
If something breaks, is the repair covered?
No, and we would rather say so plainly. The plan covers monitoring, diagnosis, a guaranteed response window and handling your warranty claim — it is a maintenance plan, not an insurance policy. Parts are usually covered by the manufacturer for a long time (panels 25–30 years, inverters 5–12, batteries around 10), but the labour to diagnose and replace them generally is not. If a repair is needed you get a quote before anyone attends, and you decide. Any plan that implies unlimited free repairs at £28 a month is either mispriced or is going to argue with you when it matters.
How long does installation take?
Most residential installs are completed in a single day, typically 2–3 weeks after your survey. That window covers the design, your DNO notification, and scheduling. Commercial systems are scoped individually.
What if my roof isn't suitable?
We'll tell you at survey stage rather than sell you a system that disappoints. Heavy shading, a north-facing pitch or a roof needing structural work can all make solar a poor investment. In those cases we'll usually point you at insulation or a heat pump first — the survey is free either way.
Why MagHomes

Designed for Scotland. Built to Last.

📜
MCS Certified Installation
Every installation is carried out and certified by an MCS-certified installer. That certificate is what gives you the right to be paid for the power you export — and it is the standard the work is audited against.
🌦️
Designed for Scottish Conditions
High-efficiency panels specified for diffuse light, and systems sized against real Scottish yield data — not southern England figures.
📱
Our Own Monitoring Platform
Not a third-party app. Faster fault detection, faster engineer dispatch, and a team that already knows your system when you call.
